Give Something Back Foundation

The Give Something Back Foundation was created by a donation from Bob and Jill Carr, former residents of Lockport, IL. The Carr family wanted to give back to the Lockport area community by helping young, disadvantaged children who were committed to academic excellence, complete a college degree.

Bob received a merit scholarship at a critical time in his academic career. This financial assistance made it possible for Bob to finish his college education. Jill graduated in the top of her class at Lockport Township High School, and went on to pursue a college education, unfortunately her family could not afford the costs to attend college and she discontinued her pursuit of a college degree. Fortunately several years later Jill was able to continue and finish her college degree. Bob and Jill realize how their college education has helped them advance and prosper in today's society. They feel very strongly about giving the same opportunity to other young, thriving individuals who do not have the financial resources to attend the university of their choice. The Carr family hopes these young individuals will give back to their community in the same manner as the foundation is giving back to others.

The core activities of the Give Something Back Foundation are:

  • Providing under-privileged students an opportunity to get an education

  • Providing students with the proper framework so they can be prepared for college and be successful when they attend.

  • Provide each student a mentor that will assist them as they progress through high school

  • Providing assistance to students in assessing career and college choices

In 5, 10, 15 yrs from now, several of the GSBF board members see the foundation helping thousands of under-privileged individuals obtain a college education. The foundation is expected to grow larger and larger each year. The foundation plans to expand by joining forces with other individuals who want to give back to students who are committed to academic success.

The GSBF board members envision the core activities of the foundation being the same in the future, but may only be more efficient and continually improving upon the activities.

Some of the biggest surprises of the foundation have been how willing people of the community are to help us with events and activities, how fast the foundation has grown/growing, the length & level the Carr family will go to help strangers be successful.
